2017 Louisiana Young Voters Grant
Request for Proposals


VAYLA is pleased to announce the 2017 Louisiana Young Voters Grant. VAYLA will award

grants of up to $1,000 to membership organizations positioned to register young people in

Louisiana to vote. The purpose of this grant is to increase the capacity of membership

organizations to engage civically and ultimately, to increase youth participation in elections

statewide. Grant amounts will be based on the capacity of organizations to carry out voter

registration activities. Organizations are encouraged to propose creative events or innovative

strategies that will encourage its members to register to vote. Grantees are expected to host a

minimum of two events for an overall minimum of 8 hours

(ex: one event @ 2 hours, one event @ 6 hours)


Grantees must agree to not using funds for the following activities: 

● Any partisan activity that supports or opposes any political party or candidate

● Lobbying

● Refusing to register any voter on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, political

affiliation, religion or gender, or otherwise unlawfully discriminate

● Using funds to directly incentivize prospective voters to register

(i.e.: bribing, compensation, etc.)



VAYLA is a progressive multiracial community based organization in New Orleans that empowers youth and families through supportive services and organizing for cultural enrichment and positive social change. Young community leaders founded VAYLA in 2006 as a means to reach out to the larger community to create a voice and organize to address the needs in the local community. Committed to youth development, community empowerment, higher education, and cultural awareness, VAYLA is composed of young leaders, high school and college students that want to engage and empower others educationally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
