About Us

Mission Statement

The Vietnamese American Young Leaders Association of New Orleans (VAYLA-NO) is a youth-led, youth organizing and development, community-based organization in New Orleans dedicated to the empowerment of Vietnamese American and underrepresented youth through services, cultural enrichment, and social change.

Young community leaders founded VAYLA-NO in 2006 as a means to reach out to the larger community to create a voice and organize to address the needs in the local community. Committed to youth development, community empowerment, higher education, and cultural awareness, VAYLA-NO is composed of young leaders, high school and college students that want to engage and empower others educationally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.


Vision Statement

 We dream of a world in which youth and elders in the Vietnamese American communities of New Orleans work together in mutual understanding to create:

  • a clean and safe environment,
  • an excellent education; 100% graduation rates and high college attendance, 
  • preservation of traditional time
  • access to excellent opportunities and success for school and work worlds,
  • a unified community network, particularly to bridge generation gap, and
  • civic engagement and political influences/power.

Goals

  • To address the needs of the local community.
  • To encourage participation and involvement within the community.
  • To be role models in the community.
  • To impact younger generations by creating paths, opening doors, and being a resource/mentor.
  • To outreach to youth and other communities.
